The most important asset of the Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Wine Estate consists of its vineyards. The estate in Bernkastel posses vineyards throughout the Mosel River Valley, many of which are in the « best of the best » locations.
The owners, Dr. Peter Pauly and his wife Helga are both traditional advocates of noble wines. Extensive care of these vineyards, combined with intentionally low yields and selective handpicking, serve as guarantors for their extraordinary wines and their individual and unique character. Their work flow in the wine cellar is focused on gentle treatment of the grapes and the young wines. They use small stainless steel tanks where the grapes of each different vineyard can be fermented separately. The fermentation is temperature-controlled and kept very slow and at low temperatures to retain the diversity of aromas and the vitality of the wines.
With a goal to make unique low alcohol Rieslings such that each of Riesling wines have an individual vineyard character per vintage, Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler has created a diverse collection of more than 25 Riesling wines. In most vintage years, they have all the varieties found on a good wine menu, ranging from a juicy, hearty table wine to a creamy, sweet dry berry selection.
